It's Halloween!!

So tonight is the final night for scares! Most of the haunted houses will stay open until the line is gone, but some have actually extended their hours as well. It is always a good idea to check out the website for the most up-to-date information.
Denver boosts some of the most innovative, creative and scariest haunted houses in the entire country. With any luck, most of you have already had the opportunity to visit at leaset one of these this past season. If not, it is still not too late.
What are you waiting for? Get your costume on and check us out. We are all waiting to scare the screams right out of you!!

Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

The good news is that the snow is suppose to stop early this afternoon, the bad news is that it is snowing! It happens every year. We have at least one or two days with snowy cold weather. If you have lived in Colorado for any length of time then you know that tomorrow will be another day filled with either sunshine, hail storms, more snow or maybe even a tornado.

The people who run haunted houses are always looking at the weather forecast. especially those houses that are located outside. Usually we can depend on Halloween being cold, snowy and pretty miserable, but this year the cold weather seems to have come a few days early and Halloween is looking like it will actually be fairly nice.

So if you are planning on going out this evening, you might call first to make sure the haunts you want to visit are open. Hey, a little snow won't stop the monsters from scaring you!!

How to save money while haunting!

Almost every haunted house offers some kind of discount coupon so that your haunted house dollars will go farther.
If you check in the Rocky Mountain News or Denver Post almost every day this month, you will find a $1 off coupon good towards entry to any of the Haunted Houses listed there. Several of the haunted houses will also give you a $1 off if you bring a can of food for the local Food Bank.
If you have a group of 10 or more, discounts are also available at most of the haunts. You do need to call them ahead of time to arrange this usually.
So check out the websites of the Haunted Houses before you go to see if there is a printable discount coupon available. Remember that most of the discounts cannot be combined with other discounts.
So start cutting and go have some fun!!

Friday the 13th! Great Day for Haunted Houses

Friday the 13 - not just a date movie anymore. Okay, so it happens every few years or so when all the stars are lined up and Friday actually falls on the 13th in October. Does this mean that all the haunted houses are going to be extra scary tonight?? You better believe it!!

There are lots of great events being planned at most of the Haunts including ours. We will be giving away puzzle pieces and posters for the upcoming SAW III movie at each of our haunts (CarnEvil, 13th Door, Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch, 25th Hour and Alien Terror) as well as give you a chance to win extra goodies in a drawing. You can win a DVD from Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Grudge 2 t-shirts and posters and more. Just enter your name in the drawing (17 years or older) and you are set. You don't even have to be present to win.

So don't just sit there! The Haunted Houses are waiting to scare you!!

Friday the 13th at The Asylum to Feature Real "Live" Pinup Zombies and Slacker from Alice 105.9

Friday the 13th is traditionally the unluckiest date in the calendar but no so for guests of The Asylum Haunted House at Boondocks Fun Center (120th and I-25). They will have the chance to be photographed with a trio of gorgeous undead models, otherwise known as the Zombette Pinup Ghouls. The living dead girls will be on hand from 8-11pm for the photo opportunity of an afterlife.
Friday the 13th this year should officially kick off the Halloween and Haunting Season, and to get things started, The Asylum Haunted House is presenting an event unlike any seen before in Denver. The Zombettes, real “live” pinup zombies will be on hand in their beautifully undead glory, to frighten up the evening. Everyone that comes to visit will have a free photo opportunity with these gorgeous living dead girls. In addition, anyone who shows up dressed as a Zombie or Zombette will receive a free ticket to The Asylum. Slacker, the popular local radio personality from Alice 105.9 will be broadcasting a live remote from The Asylum and will be assisting the staff in judging of the Zombies and Zombettes.

Balancing Scares

Stephen posed an interesting question on his blog today at www.starland.com. What makes a haunt too scary for some people and not scary enough for others? We are always being asked if the haunted house is scary. My standard reply is "It really depends on what scares you." Some folks are afraid of the dark, while others are afraid of spiders and still others nearly pass out because they heard a chainsaw.

So let's say a haunt has some really great spider scares. Someone who is afraid of spiders will then be more afraid than someone who isn't. For the person afraid of spiders this haunt would be terrifying while his friend would just walk out and say it was "lame". It's a hard balancing act. We ask ourselves each season - "What will give the best scares for the majority of people attending?" Sometimes we get it right first time out. Other times it takes some tweaking to find 'just the right scare'. While other times we discover a scare where we didn't even think one would be.

If people come to any haunted house to have fun and get scared - then they probably will. If they come to "prove" that nothing will scare them - then they won't have fun or be scared. So finding scares for everyone can be challenging. Like I said before - it's a balancing act.

Haunted Daze

Well, here we are almost a full week into the Haunting Season. After each night I seem to spend a good part of the next day fixing things that were broken from the night before. Seems no matter how well we build it, a scared patron can bend it, tear it or break it. I am always amazed at what needs attention to the next day. I am also convinced that if it weren't for duct tape haunted houses wouldn't be able to exist.
We've received some great comments on our houses and have made some changes based on constructive critisim as well. Our actors are beginning to feel really comfortable in their parts (so much so that I sometimes have to remind them to take off their costumes).
We are all looking forward to getting even better as the season goes on. As for me...I'm sure I will be off fixing something up for the next evening.

Let the Haunting Season Begin!

Most of the Haunted Houses will open this Friday and official mark the beginning of the 2006 Haunted House Season.

There are still paid job opportunities to be had for anyone interested in working at our different Haunts. We are looking for excited individuals who enjoy giving good scares. You don't have to have any previous experience and there are a variety of positions available.

If you live in Aurora you might consider ALIEN TERROR or 25th HOUR (located at Buckingham Square Mall). South Denver would be 13th DOOR and CURSE OF SLAUGHTERHOUSE GULCH. Live out west? Think about CARNEVIL located at Southwest Plaza. For more information call me at 720-261-0570.

Happy Haunting!!

Evil CarnEvil

I love building, designing and even decorating Haunted Houses. I just hate Clowns! So I guess each year as we make changes to our Haunts, it is with some tripidation that I find myself working at CarnEvil. This is our Carnival themed haunt with, you guessed it, CLOWNS! Now I know that my fear of Clowns is unfounded and probably due to some childhood experience that left its mark on my young impressionable mind, but still.....

Anyway, welcome to the Haunted Blog. Several of the Haunted owners will be chiming in throughout the next several months to give you a behind-the-scenes look at Haunts from their perspective. As for me...right now I'm just trying to stay one step ahead of those clowns!!
